Transmission noise - goes away when you push clutch in

trans swap isnt so bad
all you need to do was take off the console and pull out the shifter, take out the drive shafts and plug the holes, support the engine and drop the crossmember then pull out the trans and transfer case
if anything you might want to check out the clutch
other than that check the fluid level,
not sure, but someone could provide instruction about the gasket, but I think the tc and the trans do not pass fluid between eachother

You really should go for it, it's not complicated if you've got some tools, a manual, and a transmission jack. The jack could probably be rented or borrowed.
