Default Transmission mount...

Ok how can you visually inspect a transmission mount and know it's bad? I have a feeling mine it but how can I tell by looking? Also anyone have any good writeups on replacing them?

You have to drop the crossmember. You can't visually inspect it. Mine had a bad vibration at idle in gear. The tranny mount took about 20 minutes to change on a lift. You just put a stand uder the tranny and unbolt the crossmember. Once it is dropped the old mount is removed and the new one bolted to the tranny. Slap the crossmember back in place and put the final bolts into the mount through the crossmember's opening. Done!

Mine had a vibe also. Sometimes hard to line your X-member back up so have a nice prybar ready. The X-member bolts are sensitive too be careful not to snap them.

I may have to change mine soon as well. Something fishy's going on under there and I can't figure out what it is.

Yeah I have this clunking and when I get under there and push up on the tranny/tcase it moves so I am thinking just by looking my trany mount may be bad...Just need to borrow a bottle jack from the neighbor to support the trany while I replace it.. I also am going to get some Brown Dog motor mounts for Xmas.. OEM motor mounts suck bad...also need to replace all my damn u-joints still uhg..so much work...now I know why they say jeeps are a labor of love..lol

Actually it is good to replace all the mounts at once because with bad motor mounts you are putting more stress on the tranny mount from engine rocking back and forth with accelleration and decelleration.
