I have seen the instructions for this procedure of adjusting the kickdown cable on several sites around the net. My question is do you release the button before before going WOT on the throttle or after?

My reason for asking is some sites give the steps differently. Personally, when i did it on mine, i tried releasing the button and then going wot on throttle and it did not "ratchet" out at all. When i test drove it the tranny shifted way too hard and the throttle response was horrible. So i tried it with going wot on throttle and then releasing button and it shifts smooth and throttle response was better.

has anyone else had problems? i assume it wouldn't ratchet back out at wot if the button that prevents it from moving isn't pressed???

 

I went WOT, bush button, pull housing back, release button. Very pleased.

 

What worked for me: press button, push conduit all the way in, wot, let go of button.

 

close... Push button, push conduit in, let go of button. Rotate throttle to WOT.

yeah that is what worked for me.

 

this did not work for me. it never ratchet out and causes hard ( like jerky ) shifting and u.have a gas pedal that is hard to push and not good throttle response. it felt like i couldn't even get to 60 mph

Are you sure you moved the plunger in the right direction? All the way in the sleeve. You should feel the ratchet when you press the gas pedal.

 

Yeah...definitely moved it the same way it tells me to in every tutorial or video, but what I am saying is it does not ratchet out when i release the button then go WOT. It gives me the hard shifting and poor throttle response. Not sure why it doesn't ratchet out. I read about similar problems as mine on another site and it says it should ratchet because its a one way ratcheting device? Not sure if that is accurate or not.??

@Defiance665 not seeing anywhere in those directions where it says at what time to release the button.

I agree! I did it, apparently wrong after reading another post and was quite happy with the result. Pulling the housing back (button down)at WOT takes out all the play. I'll try doing it correctly tomorrow. (I'm not blaming that on the post!)

 

So you did it which way? With going WOT, then release ...or release, then WOT?

just trying to figure out what is right. and yeah i think there is something to be done on the transmission too.

 

Well I just did mine and I. Pushed the button down,pushed the plunger in, released the button and then did wot but let it rachet out. I did not hold the button in while I was goin wot.
After that I pulled the plunger out and it came out about an inch. So it was adjusted. So I repeatedthe steps above to put it back into adjustment. I just wanted to see if it was actually adjusted and it was.
