Default Transmission issues

Hi all,

Just got a 99 XJ. 6.5 inch long arm lift, stock gearing, 33 inch tires. Drove over 100 miles no problem. Did notice a drop of tranny fluid at bottom of bell housing upon getting home. Fast forward to yesterday. Drive to work (35 miles) all good. Went to lunch and on way back there was smoke everywhere! Pulled over and it was puking out the bottom of the bell housing. Had to get back to work so drove it (this time in 3 not OD) didn’t leak. Got a ride to the parts store and got more fluid, topped it off, drive home in 3, no leaks. About a mile away from home put it in OD and the smoke/puking started again.

Is there a reason for it puking only when the gear selector is in OD? At first I thought it could be input shaft seal, but the leak is very specific! Towed it to a shop today. But wanted to pick brains. Also found a used tranny with less miles. Thinking about picking it up either way.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
