i have a 1993 jeep Cherokee how can i find out what type of tranny i have??? its the 4.0 2wd auto. 1-2 3 D N R P

i also have a 1988 it is a 4.0 4x4 auto with the same gear selections as the 93 but has the power switch for the tranny in the dash,is it the same as the 93?

i really want to swap the 6.5" lift and 4wd to my 2w 93. but i want to make sure that its a straight swap. i need all the advice i can get this is my 1st jeep build!!!

 

If your lower position on the shifter reads 1-2 you have the rare early AW-4 trans in your 93 ZJ. The 88 XJ's trans will be a direct swap...

You'll need to source a few parts but you have most of it now.

 

so if i swap use the transmission with the 4wd and scrap the 2wd tranny??

how do i know if its a xj or zj

 

XJ is the cherokee fro 84 to 01 and the ZJ is a grand cherokee from 93 to 98

 

You posted this in the Grand Cherokee section... i assumed your 93 was a Grand Cherokee (ZJ)

The Grand wasnt yet made in 88... so i assumed that was a regular Cherokee (XJ)

 

yea there both xjs the 88 is the 4.0 4x4 with the power switch the dash. my 93 xj is a 4.0 2wd. this is my 1st time using forums so im lost on here.

Welcome... tons of info on converting to 4wd on here. Click this link and start reading all the conversion therads... several are lengthy and chock full of info. It's a bolt in conversion..

My rig is a 94 2wd that was converted to 4wd with an 88 parts rig.
