I`ve got a 90 jeep laredo w/an automatic. From what i`ve been told the transmissions from about 87-90 are france made,built? Without crawling under my rig and scraping dirt. Does anyone know what i`ve got, I know its still stock...... Can anyone shed some light on this? Anything after 90 is chrysler made?

 

I think you might be thinking of the peugeot 5 speed. as far as I know the auto's are the aw4 and were made by toyota.. Someone correct if i'm wrong...

 

Could be...i`m not to sure. So if I were looking for a transmission for my xj (90) could someone tell me what I should be looking for or asking. I was told that you have to be careful on what years to buy.....

 

Go to any vin decoder site and it should tell you your transmission. There is a couple sights on this thread check em out. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/vin-decoder-50137/ It would be a good time to get your factory readout of the specs of your Jeep from Chrysler since they dont keep the records on Jeeps +20 yrs old. There was only one auto... it was the AW-4 automatic made by Aisin-Warner. Toyota was part owner of Aisin-Warner. They also were the other user of the AW-4. For an auto, its a damn good transmission.

 

Thanks whowey.....I guess I got some bad info. Just having a little shifting problem. Not sure if I need to buy used or fix the one i`ve got.
