I'm noticing that when I shift my 91 XJ into four wheel drive that the indicator light doesn't come on. I'm pretty sure since the XJ I have was the most basic package you could get, it didn't come with that option. I crawled under my Jeep and found there's only one connection on the t-case for the speed sensor and nothing else. My previous XJ had another connection that I assumed was for telling the 4x4 light to turn on when four wheel drive is engaged.
Is there a way to make a connection or get one from another t-case so I can have the indicator light come on when I shift into four wheel drive? Is it pre-wired for this option? I've noticed other electronics that didn't come with my XJ already have the wiring for the device (clock) but did not come with a clock. I've already had the gauge cluster out to swap for the one with a tachometer and non dummy lights. So I know the bulbs for the 4x4 indicator are there and in working condition.
Any thoughts..?

Im pretty sure that if it came with 4wd it had the indicator.
The switch is in the top of the Tcase, I would get you a pic but its cold and dark out.
Its a 2 pin plug.

Yeah I know what you're talking about cause my last Cherokee had it. But this Cherokee I just got is at the bottom of the base model barrel. No carpet. Just that plastic vinal rubber matting throughout the entire Jeep. 5 speed, 2 door, no power anything other than brakes and steering.
I guess I'll just have to get under there again and look. But I didn't even see any areas where the t-case switch would be. I remember my last Cherokee had a connector near the speed sensor for the switch to be connected. Not on this one though.

Thanks for the help. I will be doing that first thing in the morning. If the paper clip thing works, does that mean a bad switch? It looks like its never been touched during the 20 years of its life.
