I'm having the same noise when I accelerate hard (99 xj Stock) 229,000

Can you just replace the chain? Is it easier to just get a new T-case?

It's coming from the T-case. I just don't know the first thing about servicing the T-case. Do I remove the skid plate? Can you just unbolt the T-case or do the insides fall out once you open it.

As you can tell I'm new to working with drive shafts and T-cases, any help is greatly appreciated.

It's very difficult to change a chain, transfer cases are complicated, look up np231 diagram and you'll see why its annoying

It's not difficult to swap a chain, install an SYE etc. Just easier as you become more familiar.

Someone who is not very mechanically inclined or just hasnt had the experience might have a tough time but it's not very difficult.

My sound would only happen at low speeds, not on acceleration. I did have a bad clicking kinda sound when I would accelerate before, and it turned out my fan shroud was loose, so when I accelerated the shroud would go back and rub the fan. Doubt that's your problem but it would only take a minute to check......
