Default transfer case fluid

i have a 98 jeep cherokee 4.0l im looking to change the t case fluid this weekend. I read that recommended is dexron/mercon 2 or atf plus 3. Since dexron 2 they dont make anymore i read that alot of people use dexron 3. Is dexron 3 the right thing to use in my transfer case ?

I have found these 2 whats the difference ?

Dexron 3 is the recommended fluid for the aw4 auto tranny and pretty much any manually shifted, aluminum cased t-case made from the 80's up to about 04.

Do you have a 4.0? Do you only have 2 peddles? Do you put it in D?

If you answered yes to these questions you have the AW4

If it says its recommended for dex 3 then guess what? Its ok to use it in a dex 3 application.

Dex 3 is recommended for the trans and t case. So, yes, you can use the leftover for the trans.

Youre making this way more complicated than it needs to be.
