Default Transfer case To adapter leak?

Hey all,

A while back I replaced the Transmission output seal and that solved the leak that I had. I now have a new leak which appears to be where the transfer case adapter mounts to the transmission.

Can anyone tell me if this is a simple unbolt ( how many/ size) and slather some RTV repair or are there any things in the adapter that I need worry about in order to remove it?

Btw the vent tube has no evidence of leaking so I cant see it being anything else other than where the adapter and trans meet. Its wet all the way to the top of the trans and leaking back.

I guess not many people reseal this because I cant find much on it at all,
Thank you in advance for your help!

You can use purple stuff and garden hose. Works better than simple green on heavy stuff. Don’t let it sit more than a minute or 2. Hose off and repeat on areas you missed. Don’t let this stuff get on any painted surface you don’t want damaged. It’s super concentrated so wash it off thoroughly. It works wonders on build up like that.

As far as your leak, I thought all that was there that could leak was a trans output shaft seal and a case input seal.
Never mind. I see what your talking about now.

I replaced that black seal last time, But it seems to be leaking where all the factory orange RTV is on the adapter, unless anyone sees it differently than I am.

is the adapter just a hollow part with those pictured sensors in it and will it just slide off when unbolted?

This is all I could find. It appears that way.
Just me but I’d clean it up good and drive it to verify that’s what’s going on.

Yes. You should should be able to pull the xfer case, remove the rear output shaft speed sensor, then unbolt the tail section. I'm not sure how much fluid you'll get dumping out, so probably drain the pan first. There are a few writeups around where people did this to swap out the rear speeds sensor when swapping the AW4 across the 1998 threshold where that sensor changed pulses/rev.
