Default transfer case

I am looking to start a jeep build here in the near future and I was confused about the transfer case option. I am looking to build a offroad/wheeler. What would be the best transfer case to start out with.

An NP231 would be my first choice.

231 since you sound new to the Jeep world.

231. My 242 gives me trouble.
If I could 're do it over again I would actually put a Dana300 in it but you will want to put a 231 in. Takes some modifications to flip the d300 and make it fit
