Reverse is going out on my 90 4x4 4.0 XJ and I believe I have found a trans for $125. I know its a good trans cause my buddy just pulled it out of his 2wd to do a 4wd swap. My only concern is that it is a 2wd trans out of a 93 xj 4.0, Ive not been able to find any thing on the forum that says wether it will work or not work. Ive done some research and i am pretty sure its the same trans ill just have to swap out the tail shaft, I just wanted some comfirmation before i bought it, sorry if its a stupid question im just not really savvy on the technical jeep stuff. I was a toyota man till i traded my 98 taco for a 94 yj and a 90 xj, not knockin yotas cause there good trucks but im glad i traded.

 

Auto or manual?

I know the manual trans is more involved than just swapping the tail housing, you have to change some internals such as the output shaft. I am not sure about the autos. Someone on the forum will know the answer and be able to help.

 

My buddy has got the 2wd trans and another 4wd trans settin beside each other i think were just gonna take off the tails shafts on both and see if they will interchange
