Sorry for bringing this back from the dead, but I have a similar situation that Im a bit confued about. I Just purchased a 97 xj with a zillion miles and I have a wrecked low milage 98 xj sitting in the garage. I plan on swapping the complete drivetrain from the 98 into the 97. My question is....... Instead of switching the reluctor rings, plugs etc. on the trans harness....Can I just take the complete 98 trans harness, tcu etc. from the 98 and put it into the 97? Will it plug right up or is there something im missing? Havent had a chance to get under and investigate, just trying to get a head start on some tech.

As long as you use the 98 TCU it should be fine.

 

Just so I have this correct.....I will be able to run the 97 engine pcm that is in the Jeep now in conjunction with the 98 trans harness and tcu from the doner Jeep? Not sure if one has anything to do with the other but I like to make sure that the two are compatable.
