I I have 91 4x4 will the trans from a 98 2x4 work in my xj if I'm not mistaken I just remove the tail shaft and instal my transfer unit but I dnt know if any thing changed in the years difference I have the opportunity to buy a 98sport for 500 runing they say it just ran hot so they parked it lol dnt they all any way mine is sluggish at take of unless u manuly shift it it's even crossed my mind to change the filter but it seems I did run it low before it started this thanx guys

Hi Twissead...Evin if I knew which engine's & transmission's you where talking about I wouldn't know without doing some research. I might start with the search feature here, in the black bar above. Or google it. Or even call a dealer. I don't know where the #'s are, but I'm sure they could help. Good luck, D.

Sounds like maybe your TCU is not working right, you might find fixing that is a bit easier!

 

get 91-96...

87-90 used different output splines, 91-96 was 23spline output.
97+ uses a TCU built into the ECU and has a different wiring harness.
