tranny trouble!

i am having some trouble with 1st gear in my 5speed. I cannot start off in 1st without it popping out, but if i get going and then drop it into 1st from 2nd it will stay in 1st but only if i do that. whats going on here?

sounds like a syncronizer if you ask me, my old sunfire gt used to be the same way

You can try changing the trans fluid.... but the op is prob correct, trans internal problem.

yea i have the 5 speed as well in my 97, last week the syncro's in second are saying goodbye to me....real notchy and grabby, you'll prolly need to either find a local guy to rebuild it cause most shops won't touch a manual transmission, they just replace it. I know of a guy, you'd have to pull the tranny yourself, but its in northeast ohio idk where your located at.
