Default tranny problems

My trannsmission slips, and it happens all the time. It had been sitting for a while, when I take my foot off the gas then floor it it does fine for a couple seconds then starts slipping again. The fluid level is fine. I've been thinking about getting a new one, but I want more opinions. I'm not sure whats wrong with it. When it slips it makes clunking noises.

Have you tried flushing it and refilling it? That would be my first step.

But you need to wait because im unsure weather a flush or a drain would be better.

so he's saying leave the same fluid in the tranny forever? i think that would be worse.

From the mechanics I have talked to if you do a regular 30k mile oil refresh then a flush is fine. But say if you have 110k miles it may not be the best to flush due to potentially knocking oil build ups away thus causing leaks.

Default Totally stupid

This is going to sound totally stupid but it is most likely the TPS. It sends feedback to the computer to lock up the torque converter or to unlock it. This feels and sounds and even acts like you are up/down shifting. My experience has been that the numbers on the multimeter are misleading but that a new TPS which is then properly adjusted will cure the up/down shift problems.

Here is the part (first one) and it is a cheap fix.

As far as fluid changes on the AW4 just change the fluid about every 100,000 and the filter and you will get 750,000 miles out of that tranny unless you hard core abuse it.

Its not a single clunk, its like a tapping, like it tries to grab the gear but can't or its slipping on and off the gear; and it doesnt stop unless I floor the gas.

Its true. If a trans has a lot of miles and hasnt had hte trans fluid changed, if you flush it it will remove deposits from key areas, making the trans have a harder time gripping clutch plates and stuff and will slip out of gear. id suggest change fluid, but dont flush it. if its got over 100k with no change then the damage has been done.

And if this helps any...Sometimes when it taps it will suge forward and stop tapping, but when it taps again it loses power to the rear wheels

Flooring it will try again to lock up the converter. Try the TPS thing before you give up on the tranny. Your tranny should outlast a couple of motors if it is taken care of and maintained properly.

So, I just drain it, then refill it?
