Tranny Leak, oil pressure high, Oil Leak
Need a little bit of knowledge on this problem. I recently bought a 94 cherokee sport. While driving it I noticed the oil pressure drop. Then the oil pressure went high and erratic, like above 80. I got out to look under the truck and the tranny was dumping fluid.
So I thought I found the leak and changed the tranny pan gasket. I tested the oil sending unit and it was ok. All is well for 24 hours. Oil pressure is stable and no tranny leak. Then the oil pressure starts to go erratic again, and the tranny is dumping fluid again. WTF. Could it be a bad tranny sending unit?
how does the does oil pressure have anything to do with the tranny dumping fluid. The fluid at first looks to be coming from the bottom of the bell housing. After getting under there it looks like the gasket on the tranny pan. BUT since I fixed it and there was no leak I guess I was wrong.
Could the tranny be over heating and messing something up? The only thing I have done recently was replace the thermostat. The guy I got it from just had a washer in lou of the thermostat so that the coolant was unrestricted.
At a loss here. Any suggestions are appreciated. It is a monster jeep and everything seems to work well EXCEPT the items above. Oh and it is a facotry rebuilt engine with about 50k on it.
Thanks

I resolved this issue. The sending unit wires got melted under the wire protector and grounded out. The tranny leak was cracked coolant lines.

I have a quick question on a similar issue. I've got a 94 jeep cherokee se and there seems to be a leak where a small black plastic piece meets the tranny housing. I'm not entirely sure what this black plastic piece is. My best guess is that its a vent because the rubber line that's coming off of it isn't connecting to anything but the tranny fluid isn't coming from the top of the line, its coming from the bottom of the plastic piece where it meets the housing. Any ideas or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much for your time
