No trans at all? Reverse? 1st?

If the S1 solenoid gives up, the trans won't downshift to 1st when in 3 or D.

If the trans seems to be completely gone, there are NEW leftover '96 trans available for $1300 or so, and that includes the torque converter. IIRC the difference between a '96 and '97 is that some wires need spliced.

excess how r ya---first off make sure the tranny is gone. Excess had what he thought was a bad tranny and went to some big extremes to troubleshoot it and changed some solonoids which I give him much respect for hanging with it.

now that -that is over--what is the problem-
just die-burnt fluid-

WHAT ???

Well heres the history. I bought it about a month ago. When i got it i could hear a rattle comming from the bell housing so i checked the torque converter bolts and sure enough, they were loose. So i put lock tite on em and the rattling continued so i checked the bolts again and they were tight so i suspected either a cracked flex plate or a bad torque converter. I took it out mudding like 2 weeks later and after about a hour in the mud the tc locked up and stalled me out when i shifted it into drive. I got it to unlock and drove fine for about a day and then did it again but it unlocked before it stalled me out and has done the same thing 3 or 4 times since then. The transmission fluid is DEFFENTLY burnt too. Today when it quit on me, i went through r,d,3,21. nothing. turned it off and back on, got it to go into drive, drove, it went to shift into 2nd and slipped and dident catch, leaving me back where i started.
