Default Track bar mount hole

On the stock track bar mount that bolts into the frame what is the diameter of the hole that the ball joint is supposed to go through. The old track bar I had wallowed out the hole and the part is discontinued. I was just going to weld some washers or something similar of the correct size on there, I just need to know what the size is.

It's tapered, so rather than weld in washers, you might be better off replacing the bracket (I think it's bolted, but you may need to weld).

Anything other than that and you'll risk having too much play and having more problems or the same again in the very near future.

The thing is you can not buy a new one. I've looked. They discontinued the part and it is no longer available. The only way I would be able to get one is in a junkyard and I am not about to put some junkyard part on my vehicle.

Those be fightin' words! You either will have to find a replacement bracket junkyard/perhaps craigslist if it makes you feel better... or replace the track bar with a double sheer style with new bracket. Oh and I'm pretty sure those double shears drop the location so you'll need to consider that when purchasing. You MAY be able to bore it out and get one of those tapered sleeves, but that bracket is such a PITA I wouldn't bother trying honestly. Cheers!

Dude - it's a piece of metal, not a battery - if you can find one from the Junkyard that's not wallowed out, what's wrong with that?

You can try to see if there's an aftermarket upgrade bracket. I have to think that with the common cracking issues that you might find something that way.

If you're dead set on welding washers, just take the new track-bar to the hardware store and find the size that way.

Ok, so I'm not the only one that read that as "how dare someone suggest I put a dirty used part from the JY on my beloved Jeep."

I took no offense, nor would I fight someone over their choice to not go get a JY part...

Anyway - aftermarket or JY is the "right" way to fix it - but it's your Jeep. Keep us posted on how it goes and what you end up doing please.

I feel so dirty now. It it weren't for junkyard parts, my '99 would be a junkyard. I collect parts every time I go. Power lock actuators, support bracket at the back of the center console, sensors for swap testing, injectors for swap testing, wheel center caps etc.
