Trac lock suspension does it work
Ok so theres a really cheap clean xj for sale in my town thats 2 wheel drive but with trac lock rear differential. My moms thinkin about buyin it to use in the snow. What does anybody know about that differential thing the owner says its great in the snow is that true.

for snow i would keep looking for a 4wd, I mean mine's 2wd and will go anywhere i want it to but if its an icy night or if it comes a snow storm i'll probably be driving my dads 4x4 yota. Think i heard someone say lockers were bad for snow, that may be wrong though just what i heard. We dont get much snow in Georgia

note that an LSD does nothing to help you TURN in snow or get out of tough situations. Only helps get you moving when it's slippery

If they're working correctly they work pretty damn well. They tend to wear out and become useless though, a clutch rebuild kit is like 70 bucks I think. My ZJ has one but it's the AWD transfer case so I cant tell you how well it works just in 2WD. Can say that I do notice it offroad and in snow. It does make a difference.

For the amount of snow you get in Wrightwood I'd just try to find another 4x4. Pretty much the same price right now as the 2wd's. Trac lock will help you some but you are still going to have to chain up when the signs go up.

This.
My 96 does great in the snow, 4x4 with factory trac-loc. I only use 4wd to get it moving and once up to a decent speed I go back to 2wd. Momentum alone will get you through most situations. 4wd comes in handy for when it gets deep. My feeling is the 2wd with trac-loc is going to spin circles from to much rear bite and not enough front.
Edit: Saw you from Wrightwood. Last time I checked Cali is a chain state so you could use chains and that might help get the 2wd moving straight.
