Default Tps sensor again?

I've been having issues with the tps on my 98 4.0 classic I've changed it out twice. cleared the codes but the transmission code still comes back, and this wasnt an issue until I disconnected the throttle cable and kick down cable and the bracket. Cleaned the throttle body and put the tps sensor back in and then the tps code came up with the p0700 tans code.would I just need to adjust the throttle cable?any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

that code could also be caused by bad connection at the TCM connector (unplug & replug), bad wiring elsewhere, failed solenoids in the trans (quite common in older XJ)

Ok I will check the connector on the tps.I would hope it's not some with the trans...it had no issues before I disconnected the tv cable and the other two cables from the bracket,to clean the throttle body.Ever since it's been throwing a p0700 and code for the tps sensor.ill clear the codes but the p0700 will always come back....and I have a handful of times done the self adjusting throttle cable method(push the plunger and push the throttle down)but nothing seems to help.how many times should I have to adjust it before it should be "right"

not an expert on the throttle cable adjustment...but only once or twice really..must use accelerator pedal though !

it is possible to mark the cable/junction with whiteout or similar marker, and you can observe how far it travels each time you "adjust" it

should stay roughly the same each time

examine other cable attachments for smooth engagement

examine TPS connector pins male/female and wires

Yes,everytime I "adjusted" it I used the gas pedal to "adjust".ok and thank you for the input,i will be doing in the next day or so..once done I'll be back with an update

If you have a meter, then test the TPS by checking that the sensor value smoothly change from around .25 volts to around 4.8 volts (or in the ballpark at least) and that the ground pin is at zero volts. If you don't have a meter, beg, borrow, or spend $20 to get one. Even the Harbor Freight cheapies go on sale for $2.99 on occasion. If you got solvent or water in the TPS, then it may be bad.

The P0700 means the trans computer is reporting an issue, and is normally accompanied by another P07xx code. The P0700 code by itself could also mean the trans computer is not responding to the ecm computer. Is it shifting through the gears normally?

Ok will check the voltage going to the tps sensor,and pretty sure i didnt get anything on the tps before installing.It came out of the box and went onto my jeep...but I have heard that Cherokee's are quite picky when it comes to sensors..if I remember correctly the tps is from auto zone..and it would be the 2nd one I've tried, the first one was bad right out the box...so maybe the autozone sensors are junk

Just a quick update,haven't been able to go test the tps sensor.hopefully I will be able to do so later in the week to give an actual update..and hopefully get some more insight

So i was able to go and look at the tps sensor yesterday....and it just magically started working how it was supposed to, but now I've got a code for an upstream o2 sensor,which is strange becuase I changed it like a month ago...the code said failed heater in o2...what would cause this prematurely?also it was a ntk/ngk that I installed...any thoughts would greatly be appreciated..thanks in advance

Make sure the adjuster is moving freely. I had to spend about 10 minutes cleaning mine with penetrating oil before it would adjust properly.

On the sensors, make sure you are using Mopar/NGK/NTK. There are too many horror stories of bad out of the box, or failing in a few weeks, with aftermarket sensors. These beasts are picky!

So lawsoncl was right!it was 15 amp fuse that was blown...so I changed it out with a new one....and then hooked up the scanner tool,went to live data reading it still shows a rich/lean condition...I'm going to be changing out the o2 sensor with a new one seeing how it's still under warranty,it should be here on friday.so hopefully I can get that and it will solve my problem..i shall return with an update...thank you to everyone who has chimed in with insight....I really do appreciate it

Have a good look at the o2 sensor wiring, and that it didn't get against the exhaust and melt the insulation.

X2 on this. Always use Mopar sensors in the future. They're pricey but will save you headaches.
