Default TPS change now no start

(01 Jeep Cherokee 6cyl) I have been having some hard starts and cylinder misfires so I decided to change out the TPS last night. I ordered the part from Rock Auto and noticed it was slightly larger than the stock when I took it off. Everything else matched and I installed it. Went to start the engine, would crank but it would not start. The check engine light came on but am still looking for my OBD reader to pull the code. Anyway, put the old one back on and it would still crank but not start . I am running by NAPA today to pick up another TPS sensor but am stumped.

Any thoughts?

Did you reset the cpu before starting it. that needs to be done.

I would go to a dealer and get from them. from what i have been learning about aftermarket elctronics for these jeeps; i would just go and get mopar parts.

I just went throughthis with o2 sensors. the oe replacement was completely different than the one i got from advance auto. so i am learning to just suck it up and buy it from the dealer. thats is any and all sensors. i wouldn't even risk it.

the 02 i got from advance was bigger than the mopar one too.

Ran the code on it last night and it said P0122. Went and bought one from another aftermarket place and tried it with the same error code. Will purchase a mopar today and install tonight. If that doesn't fix it I am thinking that there may be a broken wire in the harness. I will test for that to see if it resolves the issue.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out. BTW how do you reset the computer? Pull the battery cable? Already have done that several times.

"Everything else matched and I installed it."

Did you adjust it? the mounting holes are slots for a reason.

The mounting holes on the original and new ones are not slots.

From what I have read this year (01) had ones that are not adjustable.

just so you know. disconnecting the battery for a few min will not reset the battery.
it will if its diconnected for a couple of hrs or even over night.

there is a capacitor that stores the memory of the cpu. that cappy has to be fully drawn of its juicde.

i forget where its at but there is a write up on how to properly reset the cpu.

Issue has been resolved. Turns out I actually had reached down and disconnected the Camshaft position sensor and forgot. That's what I get for working at night. Once I connected it it started right up. Thanks for everyones help.
