Which brings up another question...what happened to the transmission? It it is really broke, is it even possible to get it into neutral to tow it? And would it be safe tow with all 4 wheels on the ground if you could?

I would STRONGLY suggest you consider towing it on a trailer, not like this...

I still would STRONGLY suggest you consider towing it on a trailer.

Trust me, you don't need that thing locking up the tranny at 65mph, especially with someone in the jeep.

The brakes still work, I went down a hill with my jeep off just to see what it was like w/o power anything.

If you scared of the tranny locking up take out the driveshafts since its being towed anyway.

they won't work for long without the booster. They'll harden up and cease working after a few pumps.

Taking out the driveshafts will work for sure, but I'd be pretty confident with the trans and transfer case both being in neutral.

That wouldn't matter at all with the T-case in neutral.

Edit: Well....so I have no idea how I got to this thread without realizing how old it was lol. It's late and I should probably sleep. Oh well lol

i was looking up how to tow my vehicle, and although this is an old post it shows up in google near the top. You've probably already towed your cherokee by now, however, I think it should be stated that going by the owners manual the transfer case should be in neutral and the transmission in park. If you are worried about it slipping out of position however I would recommend removing the pumpkin side u joint on both ends and zip tying the shaft up and out of the way.
