I have been wondering how it is to tow with my xj. I have a 17 ft. aluminum fishing boat that is actually pretty heavy. Do you think I should be concerned or should it do just fine? Thanks!

I wouldnt try it if u think its weighs more than your xj

 

I really don't know. Its a 17ft sylvan super select with dual console and 90 hp if that helps any. I did a quick search and couldnt find anything yet.

 

17ft aluminium boat - you should be more than fine

it will depend on condition of engine and gear ratio and of course hitch capacity
but the Jeep Cherokee with 3.73 gears, is able to tow approx 5000lb, so a class III hitch and you will be fine.

 

what does an xj weigh?

 

I wouldnt tow anything over 2500 lbs. The 4.0 can pull it easily but slowing down will suck.

 

3300 lbs.

 

i just found a newer boat same size around 1500lbs so I should be ok. New brakes sound like a good idea before spring. Thanks for all of your help!!

I put a pair on my XJ and love them...

 

I tow a 12 ft fiberglass stuffed full of duck hunting supplies and i have towed two three person jetskis up parlys canyon in salt lake city utah look it up i tow my 24 ft wake board boat and my jeep is lifted
