how much work is it to stick a rear hitch in the front the junk yard has about four sitting there and mine already has one in the rear I would like to put one in the front for the possibility of a winch mount as well as a tow point
If your meaning to adapt a hitch that's not specifically for your XJ I guess if was mounted correctly it would work.
I had thought about going the front hitch route.

Hey,no one's born (at least anyone that I know of) already knowing about this stuff.
You'd need one specifically designed for the front otherwise you'd have to modify one that's for the rear.
I see you found the hitch/winch thread on the modified forum.

These guys sell a bumper with the 2" hitch neck installed plus two tow points.

About every Jeep Club or any organized trail rides require several things one of them are NO Chains, Only tow Straps and if all you have are hooks you will not be going. Chains I used all my life but they can kill you if used carelessly so they aren't used anymore.
D-Rings are a much better way to go anyway if installed properly much stronger. BTW I have "Chrome" Tow hooks on my GC along with a chromed front skid all stock on the Overland package LOL. But its my "Road Warrior"!
