They mount to the unibody with a long piece of steel that then mounts a set of hooks or clevis's like the ones you see in XJ Stryker's avatar. They can often be found in a junkyard but there are manufacturers which sell aftermarket ones. HERE

I have the same setup as that above picture has and they work well. I bent the one on the passenger side the first time I had to use it though.

Excellent. We all thought you had crawled all under your junk just like we did when we got ours. Glad you got them. You need to make a through inspection of every part of yor XJ.

"JUNK"as meant as a term of endearment. I often refer to my Jeep as my "junk" but that doesn't mean I'm not very fond of it and have no plans to replace it. It is the fartherest thing from junk to me. I would rather have it than a brandnew anything. I know every bolt and nut on it and have had a wrench on each (transmission excepted) and thus was very surprised that you had not at least inspected everything the eye could see on yours.

I laugh plenty I thought you had been offended by my calling your Jeep junk.
And yes men have junk that is occasionally appreciated by others. But that is another forum.
