torque spec help
I know this will be a short lived thread... but I'm putting a new water pump on my '99 XJ and I've found the generally accepted torque spec for the water pump bolts themselves as being right around 17-18 ft lbs.
But I haven't found the torque value for the short bolts that secure the water pump pulley on. Anyone know the FSM values for those? Thanks!

I've never torqued a water pump bolt in my life......

well the FSM info I came across for the 4.0 was the water pump housing bolts to be about 18 ft lbs, but found nothing for the 4 small bolts that hold the pulley onto the water pump housing.
Normally for a lot of things I just go with the old "good n tight" method... but when it's bolts that go either into the block or securing a part that articulates, I want to make sure it's done to spec.
18-20 ft lbs isn't very tight honestly. But you don't want to risk Fing up the block, so don't want too tight. And being a water pump, don't want it too loose either. It has a seal, so 18-20 is plenty, don't want to go ape s*** on it.

Honestly where it's located on the front of our "tractor" motors... it's really not that bad considering where is on most vehicles. Taking the power steering pump, belt tensioner, and serp. belt out of the way is a cake walk compared to when I changed the one on my Toyota Tacoma with a V6. It sat BEHIND the timing belt. What a PITA.

^^ I know you were...and that's actually laughable. But she's not the only one I've heard of/seen do something like that. They're willing to trade a vehicle that they know well enough for something that would be a fairly small investment cost to fix/change. For a vehicle they know nothing about with a whole new (and unknown) set of its own problems. lol
