The pre-96 gasket and 96+ gasket are different designs. Pre-96s had cast valve covers and did not have the grommets/sleeves (I believe the prema-dry is the only one with holes built in the gasket frame like that). The 96+s had stamped steel valve covers and came with the grommets/sleeves from the factory and the perma-dry for those years also uses that design.
All Felpro permagaskets are blue in color, So if they are giving you black ones, Then they are not the Permagasket.

Not true. The "regular" perma-dry (rubber coated steel) is black, the perma-dry-plus (silicone coated steel) is blue.
The head did not change but the valve cover did. A pre-96 gasket may work but it is possible it will not seal correctly with a 96+ cover, I'm not sure if anyone has tried this I suppose its an option if the OP doesn't mind being a guinea pig and possibly loosing $30 on a gasket that doesn't seal right.

freegdr, thanks that's the right part number. Had to find out where my parts fiche went. Oddly, even in the '98 and '00 parts diagrams, the "torque limiting sleeve" is drawn incorrectly. For your benefit - since you have a Renix - this is what they actually look like:

The groumets were added to post 96' because jeep went to cheap stamped covers, so the rails were weaker. The perma dry gasket has the steel groumets built in it. Just do not over tighten them!
Just my .02. this worked on mine!

I have collected about 30 of these things from my local junkyard after I accidentally threw them away after changing my valve cover gasket. I had the same experience with several online mopar stores, they don't have them.
Now, I need to actually put them on as my valve cover gasket weeps slightly again.
