Im trying to decide whether or not I need to replace my torque converter. Heres whats going on: I get better mpgs in 3 with 30" tires 2. I can get on the gas pretty hard like 3/4 throttle and it makes a hell of alot of noise but goes no where until I catch 2nd gear around 35-45mph then it starts to move a bit better 3. When I run overdrive I can let off the gas then ease back in it and it takes a bit form it to grab again like the torque converter is unlocking. Do I need to replace my torque converter or rebuild my whole transmission. I have adjusted my T.V. cable correctly and it helped very little. Any help would be great.

If your not catching 2nd until 35 something else is up. Us suspect the tranny as a whole. As far as od with TC lockup, it does take a second to engage/ disengage

Also, if your flooring it and it slows around 35 its because your out if the power band, and also nearing the motors redline. I don't think your TC is the issue. Just my 2cOriginally Posted by Parsnip

It only does that wen im hard on the throttle but always revs higher then most xjs even with light throttle in the first 2 gears with out really going any where. As far as tc lockup it instantly disengages at the slightest movement of the throttle always has even with the 215s that were on it when I bought it. How much would I be looking at to rebuild the trans? I hate to have to do it because its my dd and only vehicle right now.Originally Posted by Parsnip

Your tranny shifts a little harder but its easier on the clutch packs and also you'll notice more power while trying to accelerate. Just put it in power and leave it there...the transmission will thank you in the long runOriginally Posted by Slim357
I dont notice any difference in how it shifts or anything with it on
Never had a difference in acceleration it still holds the gears the same doesnt shift any harder and still revs way up instead of going like it should

Well, its still worth it to keep it in power for the trannyOriginally Posted by Slim357

have you looked at the difference in performance based on sheel size?
Go to www.grimmjeeper.com and use gear calculator to do a side by side comparison of the stock tires vs. your 31's.

"trans" fuse is blown in the fusebox. Does the switch light up in Power?
Have you ever done this? Take 1 minute and 35 seconds to do.

Yes I have done the T.V. Cable adjustment. Like I stated earlier it helped a very little. The switch does light up when I flip it on. Even when I had stock tires I had this issue. It has not gotten better or worse since I put 30s on the Jeep.Originally Posted by cruiser54
