Default Torque Converter Not Locking?

I just installed a new torque converter on my 1999 XJ with AW4 transmission about 2 months ago. I replaced it because my old TC was slipping. But for the last month, I've noticed that my TC isn't locking. I'll be in 4th gear cruising about 60mph, and when I take my foot off the gas and hit the brakes, the RPMs drop by a couple of hundred. Isn't the TC lock up supposed to keep this from happening?

I did not change the solenoid, as I didn't feel like dropping the pan (I had a service done just 2 months before with a new filter and gasket). Should I go ahead and change the solenoid?

Driving down the road at 50 in 4th gear right foot steady on the gas tap the brakes with your left foot. The RPMs should RISE 3-500 RPMs. The switch for the brake lites disengages the torque converter lockup. This is the lockup test.

That's normal. Try what May Pop said.

I guess I never really noticed until a month ago how it's supposed to operate, lol. I put the brakes on with my left foot while going about 50mph (kept my right foot on the gas), and the RPMs went up about by about 300, so I'm good. Yay!

I just get paranoid, and I want my baby to run the best it can. Thanks for the replies!

Yea mine doesnt. It used to. The new one locked the first two days then that was it for it. Guess I learned my lesson about changing something that aint broke. I had enough of messing with it though Im taking it to a shop I cant take the stress anymore lol.
