I popped the stud girdle off the mains, and loosened all of the main cap bolts. It slid right out. Then I retorqued everything and installed the new on using the little seal protector that came with the new seal. It slid right in. And, of course, don't line up the seam with the split in the bearing cap. Offset it by a smidge. Less chance for leaks.
