Any symptoms you would like to share?

Verifying throttle position sensor is also important for the AW4, as TPS readings directly affect transmission performance.

You can be driving along on the highway and it will drop out of OD into third and u can shut it off and restart it and it will shift fine for a minute this does the same thing again

The trans control unit is behind the lower trim below the glove box on the '96 and some others. Your issue could be rhe throttle position sensor (likely and easy) kickdown cable adjustment (quick, easy and inexpensive) or the vehicle speed sensor on the output shaft of the trans.
