Default TJ Springs

I was talking to my neighbor the other day about replacing the springs on my 98 XJ. He mentioned something about getting a set of TJ springs to replace them with. I can't remember if he mentioned a specific year of TJ so if anybody could elaborate a little on the process that would be great.

Thanks.

What would be the benefit of doing this?

He has the Up Country package that already had the TJ springs built into it. For me, it would make my Classic look a lot more beefy and sit up a little higher. It's a quick way to give it a more aggressive stance. I can't really afford a real lift at this point, so this is an affordable alternative. A full set of TJ springs only cost $40 - $70.

So you want to know how to get them?

Pull the tires
Disco the swaybars
Disco the shocks
Droop the axles
Pull the coils

If you look for my thread on installing a lift in the technical writeups post there are some graphics to this method.

you will have a nice 1" lowering kit on the front, and you can't use the rear springs

ZJ coils in the front of a XJ will only give you about 1 - 1 1/2" of lift..

I have a 2.5" BB that is going in this Saturday. The springs will be the next step.

Default TJ or ZJ springs

on the www.go.jeep-xj.info website, that guy indicates he uses TJ coils in the front, which are 1 inch shorter than XJ. I like the idea of ZJ coils, as, for instance, the Old Man Emu coils for XJ are $189 on Quadratec, whereas the Old Man Emu TJ and ZJ coils are $139. All Old Man Emu coils say 2 inch lift, so I guess putting them on an XJ would give 1 inch for TJ, 2 inch for XJ and 3 inch with ZJ coils. Does that seem right, anyone? Buy the way, Kyle, this is a great website, very informative.
