Red face Titanium drill bit fun

not so much.
broke 3 brand new ones.

I thought these would be much stronger...

I'm trying to drill out the outer rear bolts on the two front seats (back towards the door on each). these broke off when i took the seats off to take out the carpet. shoulda blasted em.

I got through one sort of, but encountered serious resistance going through the one on the drivers side.

anyone break these bolts and fix them?

people just leave the other 3 attaching the seat and forget the 4th bolt?

thats why I only use CARBIDE bits now-a-days...breaking a lot of cheap ones got too expensive.

Titanium is only that gold coating on it. It adds nothing to strength. These bits look brittle to me. Might not be the right choice.

hmm, thats a good point, i was thinking the entire bit was titanium i guess.
They only coat it so it doesnt wear as fast im guessing.

The titanium oxide coating is supposed to make them stay sharp longer.

Yeah after I got my set-up, I let fire do the hard work for me. lol why hassle with a drill bit and screw extractors, then you can just melt it.

I agree with melting them so much easier but CARBIDE bits are the best i have found so much better.

Those are HSS covered with titanium.
You broke them cause you did not use oil and the speed of the drill was too high. You need patience to do such things.

well i did use oil, but youre probably right about me going too fast. i think what happened was i nicked the side of the bit on the harder unibody portion surrounding the hole for the bolt and because it was harder it broke.
