Tires. Snow and offroad.
For $1K you should be able to get a set of Duratracs in the 31" size and have enough left over for a set of tall, skinny Firestone Winterforce's for the snow, provided you can find some cheap rims for winter somewhere.
I ran the Winterforces on a '99 when I lived in the UP of Michigan, avg 300" seasonal snowfall. That was the vehicle that pulled the other 4X4 's out when they got stuck, lol. They're old-tech snow tires but they work extremely well- and are cheap.
Check the Surveys on TireRack- still not many tires that beat their ratings in snow and certainly none in the same price range.
Good offroad tires aren't good snow tires and vice-versa. Soft compounds that stick best in the snow will chunk apart on rocks. Tires that stand up well to offroading won't be as good in the snow. It's always a compromise.

I personally have run duratracs on my xj and tj awesome on both side from those my list would be weather silent armor, revo 2, falken wildpeak at, and firestone at. Aside from that your looking at dedicated snow tires but duratracs are a great all around tire. I've only killed one sidewall to date but I was being dumb
i dont wanna spend a ton on tires im not sure about so im thinking the 235/75r15 Crawler M/T's with the kedge grip ( for an extra $10 why not try it right)

Rocking treadwrights on the ram and they are amazing. 265/75r16
Exact same performance as the bfgs and a hell of a lot cheaper. They shipped in 1 week, calling and ordering speeds up the proscess

Too lazy to do research? Get Interco Thornbirds, best tire ever.
Kidding. They are horrible. Duratracs sound like the ticket for what you want, or look at those new Mickey Thompson ATZ P3's. They are new so I have no idea how good they are but they look very promising

Duratracs seem like the way to go as far as the opinions on here are concerned. I have a buddy who has them on his big lifted chevy and loves them. I'll check em out. Thanks for all the input.

Where is the cheapest place to shop for tires online. Tirerack? Or is there somewhere cheaper. They always kill you on the shipping. Thanks.

Tirebuyer.com is the cheapest I've found. But also check out the M/T MTZ. I had a set and loved them. Very good road manners and fairly good in the deeper snow. Not duratrac winter traction, but they won't rip apart on the rocks.
