Default tires and rim wtf?

I have a 2001 limited xj.

i just measured my rim and its 17".
the tires ( came with it when purchased) are 225/70/r16

is that the wrong tire size for a 17 wheel?
why do i always read 15" as stock?
is this an upgraded wheel? i know its stock look in my photos.

The JX's do come stock with 15" wheels. Th P/O must have change the wheels. A 16" tire WILL NOT fit on a 17" wheel. You must have measured from edge to edge. You have to measure from the inner part of the lip. Measuring all the way to the edge would give you the extra inch that you are talking about. I hope this helps.

If it's an R16, it's a 16" rim.

This I didn't know. I thought that all the XJ's came 15" stock. Good to know. You can learn something new every day. Anyways a 16" tire won't fit the 17" wheel.
