The usual reported problem, if ever, is that the tire hits one of the lower control arms at full lock. Some people learn not to turn all the way. Some people adjust the stop. Others change the control arms. The other things I hear about with 31's is that some people think their stock gears are no longer that great and they upgrade to 4.10's and that the factor tie rod is no longer adequate so they upgrade that too. YMMV.

A lot depends if you off road and want full flex out of your XJ, if so they will rub and you'll have to do some trimming.
As far as wheels if you run a 15x8" with 3 3/4 to 4" of BS you will not rub the LCA's. When I ran 31's I did trimming to mine so it didn't rub, not a lot just a small amount and ditched the stock flares.
