you still need air in them or they will go flat. it just takes a few litres of air before the gauge starts to register.
but some tires have a thicker sidewall than others. my bias ply iroks have 6 ply sidewall. i can run them at 0psi, but much less than that and i'm on my rim.

nice looking jeep man - and a useful thread.. got my first set of 33's coming and taking notes of all this info!. Currently running stock grabber ATI's at 33psi.. thats what it seems to take to lift them up off their side walls.
