Default Tips and advice for 88 Cherokee tune-up

Hey! I just bought a 88 Cherokee. I can tell you right off I'm no mechanic, and not even sure what specific model of cherokee I have. I Just bought it today, but already just driving around a bit I'm really liking it.

Question~!
- I want to have it looked at and get it all clean and ready for hitting the mountain when the skii lifts open. What kind of common problems and issues can I expect/look for? So far everything seems to be tight and running great. Oh, and it's at 215k miles.

Thanks guys!

Rusted floor pans, cracks in the coolant bottle, oil leaks.

I was told that all of these models have a tendency for a harmless leak?

This doesn't seem to have any of those problems. Any other less sever things engine related?

Only thing engine related on mine was the water pump. Little things like it will stay stuck in 4wd tend to bother me tho.

88 with 215 eh? At this point everything is "revolving". starter, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, all have likely been changed, maybe more than once.

Gap plugs, filters, (fuel & air) oil change? Get a free? brake inspection. Gap plugs, check the fluids in the trans and differentials, brake fluid. Gap plugs. Hit the zirks.

You might explore the "search" feature. It's in there.

There's a start.....ENJOY!

Grats on the Jeep! I've had my 88 for a few months now and so far the only big thing I've done is the starter. Other than that, just tune up kind of stuff. Oil, spark plugs and wire, thermostat, swapped the gauge cluster, and recharged the A/C. Next project is the rear main seal (leaks like a sieve). My control arm bushings are shot, but that's the excuse I need for my lift kit. Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

(john, I actually bought a new seal and gasket, then returned them when I found that my pcv tube was clogged and I had PRESSURE in my crankcase blowing oil out)(good rings for 262K)

Whats up with this guy? you should just pm him. Learn how to properly use a forum there is many tools to communicate with eachother.

To the op- if it isn't broke don't fix it. But keep an eye on everything, since its that old. Keep up on the maintenance.

I never understand why people get so butthurt when people post something slightly off topic. It's the internet. It's like an ADD/Crackhead Anonymous meeting crashed into a tinsel factory, people get off topic. I'm here to have fun and learn some ****, no worries dude.

Your two posts about his 1 post caused another person and myself to post, making 4 to his 1. Thus, you've caused more problems than he has

No harm done though! Moving on, back to learning more about Jeeps! I'm excited to get my hands dirty!

So, I am curios to know what kind of punishment I can dish out with this thing? In my mind, an 88 anything with 215k is on it's last leg and needs to be babied. I'm just wondering if a simple tune up would allow me to hit the snow like a boss, or if I should take it easy still before I get it thoroughly cleaned up.
