Default Tinting rear hatch window

My pro guy said it would be better if I had the rear window removed as it is hard to tint up to the rubber seal? (Might have a small gap, or lift up due to dirty seal?)

Have other people just gotten the tint up to the edges of the tint? Or have you guys removed the glass and have it tinted and re-installed?

Also I think some XJs must have come factory with rear tint? My rear passenger and cargo side windows have a gold tint on them, but not the rear. Mine is a Country edition.

Pictures. Of your gold tint... What year is your jeep? You might want to go to the jy and have get a factory tinted rear window... They came in that gold color... And it is does make it better for him if the window is out.. But if the window is out why not just get the correct glass?

Yep I've been tinting for 20+ years. It can be done in, but looks cleaner and a lot better when tinted out

How hard is it to remove the glass, do you need to destroy the old seal?

This isn't my XJ, but it looks almost identical. Mine is a 93 Country. The tint might not be exactly gold, but it has a metalic color to it. It isn't anything like a standard black tint.

Unless it is a show vehicle, just have it tinted with the glass in place.

Trying to handle it with uncured film to put it back in would be a major headache.

Most tinters will bring the film to within a millimeter or two of the glass.

Who's going to be back there examining it with a magnifying glass, anyway?

It's the factory silver tint, nothing will match it other than a factory glass

How far do you cut it back or how dirty is your tint?

^^Exactly!^^
I also use to install window tint several years back. Haven't done it for awhile except on my own vehicles.
If it is done correctly you don't need to remove the glass. As long as the installer know what they are doing you will never know that the glass was not removed.

What do you mean by how dirty? And I have it tucked up in the moulding you can't see the lines.

You really just need to know what your doing. I do windows in the vehicle all the time. It takes alot of practice and alot of patience. And a clean vehicle.

The best vehicle to tint is a subaru.. They don't have any trim around the windows they are the best lol.

If you tuck tint down in that rubber seal on the rear window it will pull dirt into the tint, I've been tinting professionally for 20+ years, I pull windows with rubber seals cause the ate dirty otherwise
