Time for a new steering box?
Looking at the pics, it's definately time to replace that steering box! The trackbar mount itself looks normal as far as I can tell, but it's always a good idea to check the track bar joint itself for play as well, I think they can wear over time.

How should I go about getting a new box? Should I get another cherokee box and brace the hell out of it? Or should I take the risk with the durango box? Money is tight and I can't afford getting the wrong box.

Would you rather do it right once or keep repeating the job? I would reccomened getting a Durango box and the jcr spacer it will be worth it in the long run when you don't have to do the job a second or third time when the stock xj spacer breaks again just my opinion

JCR brace was just ordered. Is there a part number I'm looking for with the Durango box? There's 2 models that are listed to fit a 99 Durango on amazon.

Don't expect the steering to be really tight with the Durango box. Their flaw is that they don't support the sector shaft well enough and it will move laterally when under load, even with new bearings. I have this problem with mine (replaced thinking I could get the play out of the steering
) and Matt at West Texas Off-Road said that is the common problem with those as "upgrades" when I called about getting bearings.
