Looking into buying a manual, should I get the haynes or chilton or...?
I have FSMs in PDF format with no indexing and its a pain to try to find **** in there.

Really? I thought the haynes had better pictures and more instructions than the fsms. The FSM is all drawn pictures with broad instructions. I only used them to do an injector swap though and it came out fine.
I found one on ebay for 7 dollars shipped, I just bought it, it would be cheaper than printing out hundreds of pages from my little inkjet lol

Hmmm 150 page haynes vs 1000 page FSM? I love my FSM and it tells you how to rebuild everything from PS box, trans, tcase, engine, diffs, calipers, alt, your wiring harness if you want to, the list goes on.

I used to work for the company that produces Chilton books – trust me, go for the FSM.
Both Chilton and Haynes base their books on the FSM. They simply cut out some material, rearrange, and copy/paste the relevant pictures and diagrams. It leaves a lot of opportunity for error and important omissions. And a lot of the editors don’t know squat about cars so when they have to make a judgement call of what does or does not make it into the manual a lot of the time they get it wrong. However, when they say the book is based on “complete teardown” they are misrepresenting the product. They make it sound like THEY are the ones tearing down the car. This is not how it goes.
But – the books are only $20, so I wouldn’t call it a “bad” product, but you do get what you pay for.
