It may be helpful to remove your electric fan to get to the pulley bolt. Loosen the pulley bolt first. Then tighten the other bolt. Then retighten the pulley bolt.

Always loosen the center pulley bolt 1st as stated. Then turn the adjustment bolt to either tighten/loosen the belt then re-snug the center pulley bolt. I don't believe the adjustment bolt moves anything tighter/looser until the center pulley bolt has been loosened 1st. Likewise, the adjustment will not hold until the center pulley bolt is re-tightned after the adjustment.

This is a true statement. I made this mistake the first time I went to change my belt.

Well this is nice to know. I just loosened up the adjustment screw and when I noticed it wasn't moving, I took a hammer and hit the top of the adjustment bolt. I like this new way a lot better lol. This is good to know

Nope. The head of the bolt isn't messed up at all. I hit lightly so nothing bad would happen to it. I'm not gonna use a hammer anymore though

I think this is both year, engine, AC, and LHD/RHD dependent.

On my 1995 4.0, LHD, AC model, you need to move the power steering pump. This entails loosening 2 bolts on the rear side, the adjuster lock nut on the front, and then turning the adjuster.

has anyone loosened the pulley bolt without removing the electric fan. if so what tool did you use. i can get a wrench on only some of the threads from underneath but i dont want to strip it.

I used a wrench from the top. just a normal wrench and it was pretty straight forward.

Just pull the fan, takes 5 seconds and gives you tons of room. Leave it off until you get the tension right.

So I have the fan off and am trying to loosen the pulley bolt. Should I pushing to the passenger or drivers side I know it's a simple question I just don't want to snap the bolt
