I hava a journal in each vehicle so that if I need a part for that truck/car I just look in the journal to see when I replaced it last, where I bought it, if it has a warrenty and finally the part number. I then can take my journal with me to the parts store.

Blue, I just wanted to apologize for my 2nd post. When I first read your reply I took it as you blaming the fact I used the wrong terminology as to why I received the wrong part. Which I dont feel is true since everything, I have found refers to them all as tie rods.. anyways, just want to apologize, I was stressed and have had a bad weekend. Take care.

No I never thought that at all. I thought you had been given some incorrect names for stuff and had not realized that Crown was the culprit. No problem. This is CF the friendly forum. I don't get upset too easily anyway. It is enough that you now know the right part number and you will get your Jeep fixed.

I visit many on a daily basis but post over here on CF the most. All the others are full of info but you have to wade through the bull to get to most of it. I think of CF as having great potential but we do need to be on the lookout for good writeups to add to the tech articles we already have.
Good Luck OKC.

After I got all everything put back in I still have a slight wobble. I am going to have the tires balanced and see if that helps. Up on jack stands I can not get the tires to wobble, but above about 40-45 there is a slight shake and if I hit a bump just right it will wobble worse until I let off of the gas. It is better now than it was so I believe replacing the parts helped, but did not completely fix the problem. After I took the truck for a test drive it would veer of the road without the steering wheel moving. I believe my steering box is on its way out and that the wobble took its toll on it. I was able to tighten up the gears in the box to temporarily fix the problem, but it is on my list of things to fix...soon... Today is the first day I drove it to work and it drove fine. Still need to get it aligned but got it pretty darn close. Get to do the same to my wifes 97 S10 Blazer in a couple of weeks.. Hopefully wont have problems with it.

WHen you get the tires balanced also have them do an alignment...Also check to make sure your tie rod isn't lose and inspect the lower control arms..

The control arm bushings are a bit cracked and could stand to be replaced, but not sure how that could cause the tires themselves to wobble. Perhaps cause the whole axle to shift and cause alignment and tire wear problems, but dont know about the tires.

Here's how it was explained to me...If the CA's are bad or bad bushing then the CA's can freely slide side to side and woller (spelling???) around on the bolt and bushing and cause what feels like wobble..I don't know if that's fact but that's how it was explained to me.

That was what was explained to me too. My neighbor ran an alignment shop for about 18 years and he was the one who told me that.

Ok, so that would cause the whole axle to move side to side rather than just the tires. Going 45 mph down the road I was able to stick my head out the window and see the tires wobble, but since it is a quick vibration the axle could be slightly moving side to side at a quick rate. I will try balancing the tires first as it is the cheaper of the two options, but have put the control arms on the list of things to replace, though I would rather hold out until I can get a lift kit that already includes atleast the LCAs...

The control arm bushings are easier to install with a hydralic press so when/if you decide to replace them find a press that you can use.

Or a ball joint press. I made it work

When my bushings were bad (upper control arm, axle bushings), the axle wasn't sliding side to side or vibrating, but it would clunk when i stop or go. There wasn't any shaking or nothing like that. Perhaps if all of the bushings are bad then that could happen. ]

Funny thing though: a couple years back i was helping a buddy work on his 97 TJ. He was hearing a rattle or something coming from the front end. We inspected everything but the control arms and it was all good. I decided to grab one of the control arms to pull myself out from under the jeep and the arm rattled right in my hand. Both bushings on that arm were trashed to the point where the rubber was getting squished out from breaking up. All but two of the bushings in all the arms were bad. I asked him if it rode like shi$ and he said no, except for the rattle from underneath. I know some people can ride in cars that are falling apart and not notice it and i think he was one of them cuz i sure as hell would feel that kind of wear and tear. He does beat that 97 like no tomorrow so it wasn't a suprise issue.....

Yeah i was about to take mine to a buddy's to press them out but saw my ball joint press sitting there i so i gave it a try and it worked. I had to press out the middle sleeve from the rubber, once that's out, i just take a straight screwdriver and hammer out the actual bushing. I did the same with the upper axle bushings too.
