With wife's approval.... now on the hunt for a good classic Jeep restoration garage locally of course...
The XJ is not in bad nic to begin with... but just want to get her restored like she was new off the line back in '99.
My wife asked me, "you really want to do a full restoration on that old Jeep?".... I said yes, always loved the XJs, bought mine from the original owner a number of years ago before she and I met.
Had it all these years since. Parts are still so readily available at low cost... she's still mostly stock minus the mild 2.5" lift, new springs front and rear, plus the parts replacement/maintenance over the years.
Still works as my DD. Just can't bare to part with her and with the cost of new vehicles, plus I'm an old-school vehicle guy anyways...
All of my motorcycles over the decades have almost exclusively been Japanese.... 4 wheel cager vehicles as well... the XJ has just been a reliable gem.
All that being said....
My XJ was originally ordered/built as a Forestry service vehicle. So it has almost everything the Police edition had. Long idle, upgraded alternator, factory LSD, etc. All of which are still original and work very well.
If anyone out there has taken the time to restore theirs to like it rolled off the line... would love to hear what you encountered along the way.

Thanks... yeah she's a very good candidate for like new restoration. The Jeep only has approx. 125K orig. miles on it. Is not in bad condition by any means... just normal wear over the years.
Only thing that I'm not comfortable doing on my own is the aluminum sheet metal welding. There's a small patch that needs to be done on the roof from where it was equipped with a cb antenna.

Congrats! My question is ...what's your budget?
Love to see it when it's done.
I'd love to find a rust-free body and re-done mine. But I have other restorations I'm working on right now.
Take pics along the way and show us the progress
