Default Throttle position sensor problem

To start off i have a 1996 4.0l with the ax-15 manual tranny.

My jeep sputters while under heavy throttle. i just drove a 2k mile road trip with it like this and its really starting to irritate me. the jeep was making some really bad smells like rubber was melting so i checked it out and nothing was obviously wrong so i continued.

So i went and got the check engine light code checked and it is a trouble code: p0123

The code definition: Throttle Position sensor 1 high

Now i have no idea what to do to fix this so that is why i came here.

I have very basic knolegde when it comes to electronics, if this even is an electronic problem. could you guys help point me in the right direction???

Thankyou!!!

Replace the tps with a new one (from a dealer) not one from ebay or wherever.

I used one from auto zone and it works fine but I think they're pretty much hit or miss. If you don't have much money to spend you can try one from there and just keep returning it if it doesn't work lol.

Honestly I would go with the cheap one to see if it fixes your problem then return it and get an OEM one if you still want to pay extra for it. But I'm cheap so that's just what I'd do.
