Default Throttle cable (and stumbling) questions!

I have a 2.5l 5 speed and I have had stumbling and jerking issues while accelerating. Took it to a shop and they had it for 5 days and said it ran fine there, but when I drove home the problem was still there. I have replaced the fuel filter and today cleaned the throttle body and IAC, but noticed there was only one throttle cable going into the throttle body. Is this a 2.5l/manual transmission thing or am I driving (stumbling around) with missing cables??? Any help is appreciated thanks!

The main one is from the gas pedal. The 2nd one is the tranny kick down cable...auto only and the 3rd would be for cruise control. You don't specify a year if 96 or later you could plug in a scanner to watch your tps...also buy a vaccum gauge and 10 feet of line and see if you have a vaccum leak. Have you run a fuel pressure gauge to see if it fluctuates a lot

Thanks for the reply. Whats weird is sometimes it starts fine and runs fine for a day (like two days ago) then yesterday it started fine but stumbled and today it didnt start at all. I thought it was a fuel pump problem at first, but today when it turned over i could smell the fuel when i got out of the car and went to the engine bay l, so it must be a spark problem right? Or could a vacuum leak cause it to not start?

on his profile page it says 96.

have you ever replaced the CPS? i have a 96 and had similar issues, no check engine or nothing. one day coming back from the grocery store it wouldn't start again. at that time i had no knowledge so got it towed to the garage and 200$ later and a new cps i haven't had an issue since.

Is it an early 96 or later 96 do you have an external fuel pressure regulator or not...at the end of the fuel rail is either a 2 inch disc with a vaccum line on one side and a fuel return on the other...or its clean with just a single fuel coupling running behind the power steering pump.....if the 2 inch disc pull off the vacuum line with the engine running and make sure no fuel comes out of the disc put your finger over the vaccum line to plug the hose when you do it

its a 96. Just tried to start it and it wouldn't start and the fuel pump wasnt kicking on. tested the wires and was getting good voltages. Its never been replaced in 195k miles so that might be the issue. Got a pressure gauge but now that its not even kicking on and not starting I cant test the pressure. It might have just worked sometimes and not others and not been pumping enough fuel even when it did turn on?
