Default Thread Size, Shift ****

Does anyone know the thread size for the shift **** on a manual 4x4 98 Cherokee sport? I need a replacement **** and found a nice billet one on eBay, but it says is for Wrangler and the size is 3/8"-16

The same mostlikely. Go to home depo and buy a 3/8-16 nut and see if it fits

hmm, FSM doesn't say, looking on the interwebs...

Every place I look has the same part number for CJ/TJ and XJ shift *****. So I would say they are the same.

Anyways, it's the same transmission, why would they change just the shifter?

I purchased a cheap billet shift *** from Kragen, AKA O'Reilly's, and it threaded on just fine. Dumb luck I guess.
