I know a couple of people that have done it. They use TJ rear coils. Stock TJ coil=4.5" of lift depending on how you mount your spring hangers.

Don't remeber who it is, but either here or over at naxja, there is a member that did (i believe) a rear 4 link with coil setup. Looks awesome. I am pretty sure it is a black Xj.

just my two cents cuz i want to do the same thing, but i'm probably going to pull my unibody framing off, reinforce the places it sits on, and then build an actual frame around it, mounting the body using bushings like you would find on a light chevy pickup, then do a rear coil conversion

Yeah... even tweaked the outer body alittle on both sides above the wheel wells... its still strong though and it rides straight down the road... so i havent worried about it... but kinda bothers me after i lift it and get to playin with it hard... probly gonna have to box it in back there before i install a lift... or maybe sooner...

yeah i dont think im going that much into it... lol... ive seen some right ups on them and some are way over the top like cuttin off the whole back from the seats back...and some look pretty easy... lower control mounts to the frame (stiffened of course)... and the uppers ran to brackets built like 6x6 plates bolted to another 6x6 plate on the top side of the floor boards... then ran down to the differential and im sure they re-enforced the floorboards somehow... then the coil mounts i think would be the easy part... saw one guy has shock hoops up through the floor... alittle to much i would think... all looks...

Im pretty sure the ZJ and TJ share the same coils stock with each other... ive read that most folks use the ZJ v8's or the stock XJ fronts...

yeah i started this thread but ive been researching it also ever since...

I am saving my pennies for that. HaHa

The XJ is for sale too, $13k. I hear it drives and rides like a Cadillac.

Keep It Simple Stupid!!! Your leaf spring rear works great and "IF" it brakes, it's simple and cheap to fix.
I have to agree. A coil setup is great. but in the end, Is it really worth the money and time that will be invested. I mean are they that much better than leafs? I have seen some leafs that could flex!!

My thought is if I was going to swap to rear coils why not just buy a GC and not have to do all the work...

Thats actually what i was thinking... thats why i asked how much different are the unibodies... theres acutally a ZJ down the road for sale with a bad tranny for $750... could get it cheaper... even if it 2 wheel drive it wouldnt matter... could sell the motor and get the money back... just depends on how the brakets and all look and if it would work...

could just buy a ZJ too i guess... but whats the fun in that!

Just welded on a single chamber 3in muffler in today... sounds... GOODST!

I am going to do this in the future, and will of course take pics. But I am not going to buy a kit. I will be fabricating all the brackets and arms. It costs far too much to buy a kit and I will not be using the stock rear axle anyway.
