Listen! I've lived in Upstate NY for over 50 years and people forget how to drive in snow over the summer! The first measurable snowfall of the winter always has a large number of crashes and people in ditches + the tire shops are mobbed with people wanting their new winter tires TODAY! They just don't want to SLOW DOWN! Simple as that. In my opinion, all season tires are the worst thing ever invented. They are not good for either season! It's really funny to pass a brand new Subaru Outback slipping and sliding around at 25 mph with my 1/2-worn Cooper AT3s on my XJ. People drive at 60 mph with hard packed snow on the highways where there are 2 black tire tracks with good traction. Stupid! Then there's the 18-wheelers doing 65 leading the pack in ANY conditions!
Call me callous if you want, but I was out there doing 35 in blizzard conditions where it was tough to see where to steer and had a guy pass me, catch a wheel in the deep snow on the left, spin out across in front of me, and plow head first into the drift on the right! I just kept going. He was still on 4 wheels, so I figured he was okay.

Depends where you live. Having All Seasons in the UK puts you ahead of 99.5% of the rest of them.
Sadly they don't help with traffic jams caused by the accidents :/
